One of the things I love about this shot is its insinuated history. The flowers in the foreground and further into the shot are Heritage Gladiolus. Before the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was created, Cades Cove, in the Tennessee portion of the Smokies, was once a thriving mountain community of 120 families. A little known fact is that the last resident, Kermit Caughron, was still living there when he died in 1999, despite the park being created in the 1930's. I can remember cattle grazing in the pastures while I was driving the loop road. Well, to me these Gladiolus are like reminders. These are not native species, but were planted around homes. Just like seeing Daffodils in a forest clearing, this is a sign of where someone's home once stood.
I am a video and still photographer from North Carolina now living in Atlanta, GA. In addition to still photography, I have been a video photographer for 35 years shooting for most major broadcast and cable networks, as well as many Fortune 500 companies. Since the mid-1980's, I have been shooting everything from world and business leaders and athletes for television; to families, wild animals and landscapes with my still camera. I feel I am one of the lucky ones, because I found a way to make a living doing what I love to do...take pictures. For me, still photography started as a way to share my love of nature with my friends. Webpage https://ericalbrightphotography.com/ COPYRIGHT NOTICE All photographs on this web site are fully...
